Finding Faith in Amish Country

Unplug from the rush of everyday life and rediscover the beauty of simplicity on this unforgettable journey to Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Step away from the noise and distractions of the modern world and immerse yourself in quiet wisdom, handcrafted traditions, and heartfelt hospitality of the Amish and Mennonite communities.

Our home for this retreat is a lovingly restored 1969 Amish farmhouse, now a guest rental still managed by its Amish owners who live in the adjoining home. Each morning, we will gather for a homecooked breakfast before setting out to explore the oldest Mennonite meetinghouse in the Americas, tour a 1732 Monastic settlement, and take in the rolling countryside - visiting Amish farms, shopping at local Amish businesses, and sharing meaningful conversations with those who live out their faith through simplicity and service.

The evening brings connection and reflection as we sit around the farm table for dinner in an Amish family’s home, learning directly from those who live intentionally, grounded in faith, family, and community. This is an invitation to slow down, listen deeply, and appreciate a way of life often seen but seldom understood.

Along the way, we’ll take time for quiet moments in nature, group reflections, and create space for connection with others, ourselves, and a way of life that invites us to slow down and pay attention. Come with an open heart and leave with new perspectives, lasting friendships, and a renewed sense of peace.

Featuring
1719 Museum

Step back in time at the 1719 Museum in Lancaster County, where living history comes alive. The 1719 Herr House is the oldest standing dwelling and earliest Mennonite meetinghouse in the region. Built of hand‑quarried sandstone, it embodies early 18th‑century Germanic architecture.

Adjacent is the museum’s replica native Longhouse exhibit, which pays tribute to the Indigenous peoples whose land and knowledge shaped the region long before European settlers arrived.

This immersive stop offers a deeply authentic and respectful look at the roots of community, faith, and culture.

Historic Ephrata Cloister

Step into the tranquil world of the Ephrata Cloister, founded in 1732 by the German Pietist leader Conrad Beissel.

This unique communal settlement in Lancaster County brought together celibate brothers and sisters, and a supporting married household‑community, in a life of prayer, work, and creative expression.

Visitors to the Cloister will discover its remarkable legacy: a printing press that produced one of colonial America’s largest books, intricate Fraktur artwork, and more than a thousand original hymns composed by the community.

Over time the site evolved from monastic experiment into a historical landmark, now offering guided tours through restored buildings and tranquil grounds.

This is an opportunity to reflect on how community, faith, art, and intentional living intertwined in America’s early years.
